Privacy Policy

Effective 1 September 2026

This policy explains, in plain language, what Altruist keeps about you and why. We keep only what the service needs to connect you with neighbors and keep the community safe.

1. What we keep

Your email address (to sign you in), your display name, an optional skill or practice and a link for it, an optional payment link, your approximate location and search radius, and the posts, offers, and messages you create.

2. Your location

We use your coordinates to match you with nearby neighbors. Only an approximate, blurred location is ever shown to others โ€” never your exact point and never your home address.

3. Contact details stay private

Phone numbers, emails, and street addresses are stripped from posts and first messages. Your contact details are shared with another neighbor only after you both agree to a match.

4. How we use your data

To run the help-matching features, to send you the notices you ask for, and to keep the community safe. You can turn neighborhood notices off at any time.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell your data. We use a small number of service providers to operate Altruist โ€” to deliver email, to host the service, and to measure how the product is used โ€” and only for those purposes.

6. Your controls

You can edit your profile at any time, turn off neighborhood notices, export a copy of your data, and delete your account. To export or delete your data, use your profile settings or email support@altruist.work.

7. Keeping your account safe

You sign in with a one-time code we email you, so there is no password to steal. Contact details are hidden by default, and handoffs are guided to public meetup spots.

8. Children

Altruist is for adults aged 18 and older and is not directed to children.

9. Changes and contact

We may update this policy and will note a new effective date here. Questions? Email support@altruist.work.
