Terms of Use

Effective 1 September 2026

Altruist connects neighbors who want to help each other โ€” a ride, a bag of groceries, a hand with a task. By using Altruist you agree to these terms. Please read them; they explain what Altruist does, and what it does not.

1. What Altruist is, and is not

Altruist is a place for neighbors to find each other and offer help. Altruist is not a party to any exchange, ride, sale, gift, or payment you arrange with another neighbor. We do not employ, supervise, direct, or guarantee any neighbor, and we do not run background or criminal checks on anyone.

2. Who can use Altruist

You must be 18 or older to hold an account. If you are under 18, please do not create an account.

3. Meeting neighbors is at your own risk

Because we do not vet neighbors, you decide who to meet and who to trust. Use your judgment. Meet in a public place โ€” never at a home โ€” and do not share your home address. Contact details stay private until both neighbors agree to a match. You accept the ordinary risks of meeting and helping people you arrange to meet through Altruist.

4. Money between neighbors

Any tip or gas reimbursement is sent directly between neighbors through their own third-party payment apps. Altruist never holds, moves, or takes a share of that money, and is not responsible for it. We cannot confirm who owns a payment handle, so only send money to a neighbor you have actually dealt with. Help on Altruist is always free to ask for and free to give.

5. How you agree to act

Be honest in what you post. Do not use Altruist for anything unlawful, for harassment, threats, or discrimination, for weapons, or to arrange paid childcare, eldercare, or other regulated services. Follow the law that applies to you.

6. Safety and enforcement

If something is wrong, report it through the in-app report tool or email support@altruist.work. We may remove a post or an account that breaks these terms, and we keep known-bad actors out.

7. No warranty

Altruist is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. We do not promise that any neighbor will respond, that help will meet your expectations, or that the service will always be available.

8. Limits on our responsibility

To the fullest extent the law allows, Altruist is not liable for the conduct of any neighbor, for any in-person meeting, or for any loss, injury, or dispute arising from an exchange arranged through the platform. Those are between the neighbors involved.

9. Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time from your profile settings, or by emailing support@altruist.work. We may suspend or remove an account that violates these terms.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If we make a material change we will note a new effective date here; continuing to use Altruist means you accept the updated terms.
